Please don't groan .... I'm on a diet.
I've never actually been on a diet before and at 40 I think that qualifies me as the only female in the western world who falls in that category (Guiness Book of Records please note, I am available for publicity if you need me).
But recently the flab hit the fan or rather I couldn't zip up my pants anymore even when lying down, so I figured it was time to finally take the bull by the cream horns. But what diet to try, that was the million dollar question. Of course I've observed a lot of people being on diets but God, doesn't it all seem a bit complicated? My friend Jill who's on Weightwatchers has some app on her phone and every time she eats anything she types it in and it converts it into points. "But fruit is no points," she tells me "and cabbage is negative points." Or something. I have absolutely no idea what she was talking about. All I know about points is that Sir Brucie Forsyth used to yell "What do points make?" and the audience would yell back, "Prizes!!!!" on Play Your Cards Right and if you were lucky you'd win some trashy Plether three piece suite or if you were really lucky even a car. But with Weighwatchers you don't win anything except a headache and you have to be constantly vigilant of yourself and constantly convert yourself into points. I knew I couldn't be arsed with that.
Then there's Atkins which involves quaffing vast amounts of sausages, and the South Beach Diet which isn't as good as it sounds and in fact doesn't mean you swan about at a spa on a beach receiving massage from lovely pool boys while effortlessly shedding your inhibitions along with the pounds. But whichever way you slice the cake doing a diet on your own means a lot of palaver involving buying food, preparing food and weighing food. And basically having more food around than you need or can resist. Without any self control you are toast.
And since I don't have any self control I was limited in my dietary choices. So what diet am I on then, I'm sure you're dying to know! Well for a week now I've been on this diet where you pick up all your refrigerated meals from the gym. They give you three meals at 1600 calories a day and you just microwave them and that's it!!! There was also a 1200 calorie plan but come on I'm not a sado masochist! I mean yes I'm a saddo but not a masochist. The food is delicious and not even that expensive. It is an amazing thing. It is the sort of diet that is good for me because I know I can only eat 'what's in the box' and that everything else is out of bounds.
The downside is I have gone a bit manic and become a trifle obsessed with food. We recently acquired two guinea pigs and sometimes I do find myself staring at their lettuce leaf enticingly and thinking, "Should I grab that when no one's looking? It's only got a couple of bites taken out of it. It'll be fine." But then I give myself a good telling off and take my hand out of the cage before any damage is done.
Other than that it's working a dream. I'm not sure how long I'll be on it. I guess 'til I hit my target weight (a month or two I'm guessing).
What about you? Have you ever found a diet that worked? If so do spill the beans and pass some over (liberally doused in tomato sauce of course).

Forget "brand" diets. Just eat less and excercise more. Seriously. It takes longer to see results but it's a lifestyle that is more maintainable which means the weight will stay off.
It sounds like you're doing something similar to me. I'm doing Lite n Easy - I order the food online and it gets delivered once a week. Combo of fresh and frozen food. Both me and my 'hubby' are doing it - he's lost 16kg and I've lost 6kg so far. The food is surprisingly good although I do miss cooking. Journey of a thousand miles starts with one step - so good on you for starting. Exercise helps too but all work and no play makes for a very boring life. There's always time for a good coffee and a little, pretty cupcake!
I always hated diets and never really concioussly did them. But now, I've got more than a bit of a muffin top and really need to do something. Instead of diet, I think I'd just rather walk. I like my cream horns too much to give up completely.
I don't believe in dieting. But I'm currently on one. Go figure. Like you , i just put a lot of weight on and decided it had to go. I'm actually on weightwatchers, and for me it really really works. I've lost 16 pounds in 6 weeks. I'm bored senseless, but I can fit into my clothes. Hurrah.
M2M
I cannot for the life of me lose these last two kilos. I suspect if I stop eating a pack of tim tams each day that the kilo's would soon disappear. But then so would my reason to live.
Steve....I know what you're saying but my problem was not knowing when to stop eating. This way you eat smaller portions and shrink your stomach, in theory you feel fuller sooner so then I can 'go it alone'
Di-licious....Well done for losing all that flab. The other problem is that the more you exercise the hungrier you get!
Marketingtomilk...Good for you! For you points really do make prizes. Yes dieting is pretty boring but I am getting off on the 'virtuous high' of going trick or treating yesterday and not eating even a bit of candy!
Romina Garcia....Give up Tim Tams. That's just madness. Thank God they don't have them over here. Well they did briefly sell them at Target - manna from heaven, i feel your pain!
Just don't eat the guinea pigs!
Wow That Was Awkward.....ooh don't tempt me. In Peru they eat Cuyes en salsa de mani" - Guinea pigs with peanut sauce
YUM
Sugar, and all the "oses". I was recently diagnosed diabetic and now I can't have a lot of sugar or carbs. I have lost about 20 pounds so far. I especially avoid fructose. Fructose effects your body's ability to sense when it's full. I also noticed that many things that I thought were not very sweet at all are REALLY sweet to me now....
I did groan at the beginning of this because I also need to diet. Or eat better or whatever it's called now.
And from all Ive seen and read (loads of research needs to go into this, obviously, before I do anything about it), Steve is right.
Good luck to us both!
I'm also on a diet, just trying to plan and restrict, but it's hard so yours makes sense. I'm toying with the idea of body for life or eat stop eat
I find it hard with kids around though....
Well, I have been anorectic for a good chunk of my life, and yes it did work. You just stop eating all together and start exercising like a complete nutter. Once in a while you can allow yourself a slice of apple or a cup of frothy skim milk with sweetener.
Beware though, social life really sucks and you might get depressed/have panic attacks and/or get other unsightly side effects.
HAHA! It actually feels good to laugh about it now.
I wish there was such a service like that here. Sadly the only thing that works for me is to cut out carbs and alcohol, seriously what kind of life is that?
One of my English students admitted to regularly eating guinea pigs. Strange boy!
Lol Thanks for your comment on my blog - yep I must admit if I could afford for someone else to do it for me, I would do the same thing as you!
Remember, you are very welcome to join in with my FB group and check out my video on my FB page if it ever gets tricky. Good Luck!!!

http://weightlossof.com sorry admin about this ,but it's look great, please do not delete it..thank's ;)
I've been on them all and Steve is right they are brands aren't they? I'm an old fashioned write it all down and count calories woman.
We also have two guinea pigs- and guess what, they are on a diet. Yes, they can go diabetic, and as you will have found out by now they aren't called pigs for nothing. They have to have pellet food, not the mixed grains, and go easy on their favourite treat (sweetcorn). Me, I do Weight Watchers and it seems to work- I generally lose 1 lb per week.
I'm writing about dieting at the moment in my Operation Weight loss posts. Please pop over and take a look! I have also created a forum on my site in which we can share healthy recipes and support each other! I'd love you to join in!
I often think it would be easier if I could just stop eating completely. It's once I start that's the problem. I don't think I'm very good at doing things in moderation. Why have one jaffa cake when you could have 12??
LOL with the Brucie analogy! I couldn't be arsed with counting points all the time either, even though I lost 11lb with WW. I lost a stone and a half with Rosemary Conley, a little old-skool but BRILLIANT! It's calorie controlled, so there is a bit of "counting" but as all her recipes are counted for you, you end up doing things out of habit. She is hot on portion control, and all her classes involve 45mins aerobic exercise. So it is basically about eating less and moving more, which makes more sense to me than saving up "points" by starving myself all day so I can gorge on a Chinese later. If you don't fancy a RC class then her "Lose a Stone in 4 Weeks" book is great for going it alone. Good luck!
