Would You (Should You)? ever wear Skinny Jeans

Today my pal Jimmy Jacob from Personalsfacts is guest posting and giving us his two cents on the perils and pitfalls of women wearing skinny jeans:

On my personal dating blog, I mostly cover all subjects related to love and sex. However, I have never ever commented on a woman’s fashion sense and how it actually affects their dating lives and I know of one article of clothing that most women own that is quite damaging does scare potential suitors away.

Skinny jeans.

Call me an a*shole, but I just don’t see how ladies are continuing to delude themselves into believing that skinny jeans are sexy and fashionable on every gal. In fact, it’s the polar opposite and it’s hurting a lot of women’s’ sex lives. I know that Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj have taught women that they can be who they want to be and wear what they want to wear—but in my opinion, that’s just plain stupid.

Being an adult means being able to decipher what you can and can’t get away with. Just because I love the way my feet feel in Crocs, does not mean I will ever go in public and showcase them for the world to see.

Now here are the three main reasons as to why men think women should not wear skinny jeans:

Makes The Chubby Look Chubbier

I think the reason why a lot of women buy skinny jeans is because they think they are ‘slimming.’ Skinny jeans don’t make you skinny. If you are not skinny, skinny jeans only point out your gargantuan thighs, ass and waist. Honestly, they can’t even be comfortable when you’re that overweight. Seriously, what are some of you thinking?

They Create The Unflattering Mushroom Top

I adore love handles on a woman like any real man should, but if we see them seeping out of your pants, it’s a major turn-off. Even if a woman is slim, I find that skinny jeans have the effect to make her look bigger than she would if she wore normal denim jeans. If any item of clothing makes parts of your body look like something Super Mario would stomp on, then it’s best to get rid of them.

They Make You Look Like Big Foot

I wish someone would tell skinny girls that even though they can fit into skinny jeans perfectly, that it doesn’t hide their enormous feet. Skinny jeans only make your feet look like huge Sasquatch feet. These girls are also the ditzy ones that love wearing neon colored heels too—only showcasing their huge feet even more so. Yup, that’s really going to turn men on more.

In closing, I’m not saying this because I’m a prick. I am by no means a fashion god. I just wear clothes that make me feel comfortable and I’m most attracted to women that do the same. I just want women out there to appreciate their bodies and to not wear things because everybody else is wearing them. Be sexy in your own unique way. That’s all I’m asking for.

Hmmm.....I am tempted to lay into you, call you sexist etc. but given all the hissyfitting with the Oscars (Billy Crystal and Angelina Jolie) I really can't be bothered.
The only thing I'd take issue with is your assumption that skinny jeans aren't comfortable. Given that many brands have so much stretch in them they might as well call themselves "jeggings", perhaps that's the reason so many women wear them when they shouldn't?

I even object to lattes being skinny...

Expat Mum....I have never tried wearing skinny jeans I am not really the right sort of shape for it not to look like a knackwurst. But kudos to anyone who can pull them off!

Ha! I know I sounded sexist, but the point I was trying to make is that women do not need to conform to certain fashion trends in order to convey sexiness.

Trust me, I live in Toronto and over half of the guys here wear skinny jeans. It's not a pretty picture.

Jimmy....Men in skinny jeans! Don't get me started. I cry with relief sometimes that I am not single since so many men these days wear skinny jeans. It is just a total turn off. Not to mention they must be exceptionally uncomfortable in the nuts department. And don't get me started on the trend for acid wash jeans. Men - please don't go there.

As someone who has never carried much weight in the bum and thigh area, skinny jeans are probably the best for me, HOWEVER, as women get older and start accumulating bulk around the middle, it can look a little strange when there are still two stick thin legs sticking out of an enormous top!
My 16 year old son wears skinny jeans, but they're baggy. If you know what I mean. I don't think I'd let him out of the house if they clung anywhere. Such a bad look!

I'm all for promoting my gargantuan thighs and ass, it's a Latina thing. If someone tells me my ass looks big in my skinny jeans I thank them for the compliment. Different strokes for different folks!

Jaimie jeans from Topshop are the most flattering skinnies you'll ever find. They love girls with a booty and are totally slimming! Go Topshop!

Skinny jeans make me look like I'm wearing a nappy, the also hurt the backs of you knees!

Vicki Psarias...I don't buy it. If something isn't overpriced I can't belive it in ;) That's why my jean of choice is Seven for all Mankind! Those jeans are the bomb but cost a bit

Very Bored in Catalunya the last time I wore skinny jeans was in 1984 when they were called drainpipe jeans. I had a grotesque pair in pinstripe. And even then they were not as crotch hugging as they are now. I'm sorry but I will not wear skinny jeans and risk going out with camel toe and in abject agony cos they're cutting into my stomache.

Nope, a fashion God you are not, Jimmy. For starters, it's called Muffin Top, not Mushroom Top.
I love skinny jeans, and they actually look really good on me, if I might say so. I also love neon coloured heels. Manolo does a fine set of pairs this season. An acquired taste, I agree. But then, whom am I trying to convince anyway? I take that you are the owner of a pair of Crocks? *shudders*
Dressing for comfort just makes me yawn. And don't even get me started on UGGS, Crocks or those neoprene sandals with velcros.
I agree that an overly obese person in a pair of skinnies isn't one of the prettiest sights. But when you are that big, nothing really looks good on you. You might as well do the denim Wiener.

Metropolitan Mum....In defence of Jimmy apparently a mushroom top is an extreme muffin top http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=mushroom%20top

I don't personally follow fashion because for one I live in a city where it is just not worth it as most people are not fashionable. Secondly I don't even know what is in fashion and gave up reading fash mags about ten years ago. I switch between dressing for comfort and dressing for sassiness with heels etc. UGGS are okay if it is snowing outside although yes they are UGG-ly!

Fantastic summation of skinny jeans....though think they looks better than those wide arse jeans (like jodpurs, you're probably too young to remember) we all used to wear at University that we though covered up the Fresh 15 (IBs) but actually made it look worse. Sometimes its a blessing not being able to see yourself coming and going...

About Last Weekend....wide arsed jeans??..now I'm intrigued. I'm 41 so we wore skin tight pinstripe jeans at 13, then flattering men's 501s for a few years, then at uni it was the Acid House phase with really baggy flares that looked pretty good!

Thankyou! I hate skinny jeans! I don't like the way they feel, or what they do to my already quite ample hips!

Read the whole thing and may I say that, if you got no ass, skinny jeans are not for you. That is rule number 1.o

I have never tried skinny jeans. Honestly, I hate jeans period. I am heavier gal trying to lose weight of course and whenever I wear jeans they seem to dig into my stomach or they pinch. I rarely find jeans that are comfy and when I do I wear them out pretty fast because I have so few pair lol.

ha! Hate those things! I posted about them too, Emma K.

Firstly, as a dude I will never ever give a curvy gal a second glance in skinny jeans.... but let her wear 501's with half boots and you have a winnning combo... skinnys have no place on curvy muffin tops!!! add a belly button thang and it becomes even more of an eye sore!! I'm in my forties and need to take care of my eye molecules!!! Dress to your body type surely? 501's are hard to beat, use a set of heels to dress them up and give some style and sexxxiness.... Just sayin....
